What books are unpopular?

There is a name for this kind of novel: dark fantasy. And yes, there are people who read and enjoy these kind of books, myself included. If your book focuses less on the monsters and human-like animals and more on the death, it may more closely fall into the horror genre. There are people who enjoy that genre too, just ask Stephen King. Bottom line: if it's well-written, people will like it.
