Question about curing/drying marijuana?

First off, I am a medical marijuana patient in california where it is legal for me to grow. I harvested today and trimmed up all the buds and cut them off the stems, then put them in a glass jar. I heard that I need to airdry them first for a few days, so how would I go about doing this? can I just leave the buds in the jar with the lid off? thank you for your help
