Why does everyone hate Jimmy Carter?

I think he was probably one of the most honest and virtuous presidents of our time...just elected at the wrong time...If Reagan and Carter were switched off in the time they were elected, I bet Carter would be just as popular as Reagan and Reagan just as unpopular as Carter is today
