What are the best careers for working with the elderly?

Since being laid off I've really been thinking about what it is that makes me happy. I've always enjoyed being around elderly people and I believe a career working with the elderly would be a great move for me. I am patient, caring, loving and I have a genuine interest in helping them. I find that I connect easily with them. What programs should I be looking into to get my new career started?
