My crush asked me out but he's unpopular?

My crush asked me out to the dance. We just met on wednesday in school and it's really wierd that we both like each other and we just met. He asked me out on Friday and I said yes. But I don't really want to go because he isn't that cool and i'm very shy and this is my first date. My classmates are probably going to make fun of me when they find out. I don't if I should go to the dance with him??
